VanMar Safety Management

Our firm has the strong belief that success comes with raising our standards with regards to the health and safety of our workers on our sites. This, we believe is important and were satisfied with our recent Worksafe BC "Measure up Campaign" site audit where we score 98%. This we feel was an indication of our commitment to the industry and other relationships we possess.

Our corporate program consists of a strong policy holding each employee/worker at each level accountable for daily responsibilities. Correcting substandard achievements are strongly regarded.

Communication with trades is deemed imperative at all levels to achieve a high standard. This is done through various levels of site meetings with all levels of people.

Our corporate safety coordinator encourages and monitors our process regularly in order to achieve our high standard and commitment within our industry. This is supported from the top levels within our company and is well recognized from provincial enforcement sectors.

We feel that always challenging ourselves to become better in this ever changing industry will avoid our opportunity to become complacent or rely on standard ideas.

Private Safety Consultant

VanMar Constructors has a private safety consultant, Carl Savard of C. Savard & Associates Ltd., who keeps VanMar Constructors Inc. informed of all impending and upcoming regulations that are to be enforced by legislation. The consultant does regular unannounced site inspections on all of the VanMar Constructors sites. He ensures that our own site specific safety plans are being enforced by VanMar site staff, and abided by all of the subcontractors site personnel on each site.

Project Specific Safety Plans Enforced

Every site that falls under the VanMar Constructors name, has a job specific fall protection program in place, a job specific site safety plan and job specific site orientation (given to all visitors and workers entering the site). Each VanMar site has a qualified safety officer and/or a first aid attendant who conducts a weekly site safety meeting with all personnel on site to keep them informed of current issues as well as address site risk management issues. VanMar site safety rules are posted clearly at all entrances to the site to insure high visibility to all entrants to the site.

Subtrade Umbrella Enforcement

VanMar Constructors not only enforces its own safety policy, it enforces safety policies that fall under the subtrades' scope of work, and are subtrade specific. Subtrades are required to submit their company safety program before the commencement of work to the VanMar safety officer to insure that all areas of safety are covered on site. Occurrences with regards to safety are monitored daily through the use of a daily diary, kept by the site superintendent and project manager. All violations and near misses by subtrades and site staff are dealt with accordingly to ensure that the initial unsafe practice is not repeated on site.
